Now, I don’t recommend eating seven cupcakes for dinner (or maybe I do so that you can see how it makes your body feel). It didn’t make my body feel good. I feel really jittery right now. I hate this feeling. See, I don’t usually eat a whole lot of sugar so I’m in the middle of the rush and crash that follows. Sugar dehydrates me so I am drinking water now to fight it, but it’s kind of too little, too late.
So why, then, don’t I feel guilty?
What’s the point of guilt? My body doesn’t feel good which sucks, and I have to deal with that, but there isn’t any reason for making myself feel bad just because I ate some cupcakes. Big whoop. As Natasha said on Top Model, “some people have war in their countries (3:40)” Plus, between you and me, I have enough drama in my life right now that I don’t have room on my emotional plate for guilt over desserts.
Besides, they were good cupcakes! I made them myself. They were Boston Creme Pie Cupcakes to be specific. I’ve been wanting to make them for over a year so it was a dream come true to eat them (although to be honest, they weren’t as delicious as I’d hoped).
What happened was I arrived at a party where they ran out of my planned main course. So I (OMG, I think that’s a black widow spider crawling up my wall right now…if I die after I publish this blog post, someone please look after my kitty, Delilah, and give her lots of treats) made a snap decision to make cupcakes my main course because I was hungry, and it seemed like the best option at the time. I did eat some salad, too, but as I always say: A salad ain’t a meal!
My favorite weight-loss coach, Brooke Castillo, recommends that a person’s daily eating consist of 90% fuel foods and 10% joy foods (read her book for more info on what this means, you can listen to parts of her book for free here). I think that is a great way to eat when you are losing weight. It keeps you satisfied without being deprived. To put that into perspective, an average person would eat the equivalent of one cupcake per day to fill the 10% joy food.
As for me, since I am not trying to lose weight and I love food, I eat much more than 10% joy food. Also, I make my fuel food so delicious that much of it would be classified as joy food if not for its high nutritional value.
The bottom line is I know that one instance of eating seven cupcakes won’t make me or anyone else fat. Sure, eating seven cupcakes every day would probably cause me to gain a few pounds, but the reality is I wouldn’t want to eat seven cupcakes a day. Cupcakes are delicious, but they don’t make my body feel good. One or two is usually my limit.
Feel guilty for not calling your friend on his birthday (Happy Birthday, Phil!) or for sleeping with your boyfriend’s BFF. As for cupcakes, just be happy and thankful that you had the chance to eat some delicious dessert!

How To Eat A Cupcake said,
April 23, 2008 @ 11:48 amI couldn’t imagine eating seven cupcakes for dinner. Well if we’re being truthful I COULD imagine it and it would be a joyous occasion. But I have this thing where I REALLY don’t like feeling sick. I can barely handle one cupcake, much less SEVEN, and I make them every week! So I commend you for being able to scarf down that many. Nice job!
